Australian designer Josh Goot has created an exclusive capsule collection for on-line retail giant ASOS. Staying true to his love for prints, Goot's collection is centered around a colourful, bright digital print. He has kept his trademark silhouettes and cutouts but created a much more affordable range for his fans. This collaboration is a smart move by Goot as ASOS gives him exposure to a worldwide market. This is the second range Goot has designed for ASOS. His first collection was released in December last year.
Despite worldwide retail sales dropping, ASOS have defied the trend to recently report another successful quarter, with revenues increasing by an amazing 160%. An increase in international business has seen the brand go from strength to strength. Selling over 50,000 product lines, ASOS offers consumers access to more than 50 different companies. The website attracts more than 13 million visitors a month, which is amazing for a shop that has never had a bricks and mortar store.
Michelle Obama in an ASOS Africa top |
International sales now represent 57% of total revenues for the company. Over the part three months, European sales rose by 80%, and sales in the US rose 151% after Michelle Obama was spotted in an ASOS brand top during a trip to South Africa. The top was part of the ASOS Africa collection which is a collaboration with SOKO in Kenya. This collaboration is produced in Kenya by 25 local craftspeople. These locals are taught valuable skills which will hopefully lead to a sustainable business for the Kenyan community. For the most recent ASOS Africa collection, £5 from each sale went directly to the construction of SOKO's new workshop, with ASOS matching each £5 donation.
ASOS have undertaken many collaborations not only with designers, but with other underprivileged communities which has help raise much needed funds and awareness for fantastic causes.
